Come Up to My Room 2014
Last year at the Gladstone Hotel, artist Kathleen Wicks created an installation from discarded wool blankets. What sort of value does society put on using discarded objects in a system of wealth? It includes themes of the environment and the economy.
At the alternative design show, Come Up To My Room, Wicks drew her inspiration from her father, who used at-hand materials to produce, build and repair, as well as memories of her grandmother, weaving wool into fabric.
“We are at a critical cross roads where wealth is blinding our sense of value,” she says.
Wicks’ exhibit appeared at The Gladstone Hotel Jan 23 – 26, 2014, and we were very happy to be apart of it!
